THOMAS V. ASKOUNIS received his Bachelor’s Degree from Northwestern University in 1972 and his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1975. Mr. Askounis is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Tennessee as well as the federal courts in the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. He is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell and received the Illinois Super Lawyer Award in the years 2005 through 2008. His practice is concentrated in the representation of equipment lessors and financial institutions in both bankruptcy and transactional matters. In addition, Mr. Askounis:
• has served on the panel of United States Bankruptcy Trustees and his experience includes both debtor and creditor representation
• is a member of the Motor Vehicle Subcommittee of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (“ELFA”) and has also served on its Legal, Banking, Municipal Law, Membership and Credit and Collection Management committees
• is a member of the National Funding Association, Inc.
• is a member of the Turnaround Management Association where he is on the Membership Committee
• is a member of the Commercial Law League of America
• is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute
• is a past Secretary and Director of the Mid-America Association of Equipment Lessors
• is a past member of the Board of Directors of the United Association of
Equipment Lessors (“UAEL”) having previously served as the Chairperson of the UAEL Legal Committee
• has guest lectured at the Legal and Credit and Collection Conferences and at the Funding Symposium sponsored by the ELFA
• is a member of the American Bar Association where he is a member of its Leasing Subcommittee
• has been President of the Hellenic Bar Association
• is Treasurer and served as a member of the Board of Directors of Howard Brown Health Center since 2000
