- David Wiener joined LEAF Financial Corporation as Group Head – Capital Markets & Structured Finance the beginning of 2008. Mr. Wiener is responsible for developing, implementing and managing all aspects of the syndications / capital markets processes, including, policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to single transaction and portfolio placement. Additionally, Mr. Wiener is engaged in overall corporate pricing, corporate analytics, mergers and acquisitions, asset based lending for other lessors and intermediaries, and public sector transaction originations.
From 1995 to 2007, Mr. Wiener was employed by GE Commercial Finance, most recently a Capital Markets Group Senior Vice President. He has been a leading investment banker of syndicated equipment leasing and finance transactions. Over his 12-year tenure at GE, he has supported a variety of General Electric businesses in their utilization of developed capital markets capabilities. Mr. Wiener has been a past recipient of the GE Capital Pinnacle Award.
Prior to joining GE, Mr. Wiener was Director, Corporate Planning reporting to the CFO at Tokai Financial Services now De Lage Landen Financial Services. As a member of the Tokai senior management team, he was the architect of the first national syndication platform for a major vendor leasing company. He was the recipient of the Tokai Winners Circle for his pioneering syndication achievements.
Mr. Wiener started his financial services career with MNC Leasing in 1976, involved in credit underwriting as well as transaction pricing, structuring and placement.
Mr. Wiener has structured and closed several billion dollars of transactions providing financing to companies classified from investment grade and middle market to emerging market and project finance. This comprised thousands of small, middle and large ticket transactions and portfolios. While personally having established over 300 new investor relationships, Mr. Wiener has been responsible for hiring, training and supervising staff in capital markets syndication, sales and finance.
For 24 years, Mr. Wiener was a member of ELFA Research Committee. He led as Research Committee Chairman from 1990 until stepping down in 2006 – the longest continuously serving chairman of any leasing association committee. Under his leadership, he enabled the ELFA to expand the Survey of Industry Activity to over 300 pages of comprehensive data and created a customized individual company data sheet report useful for industry benchmarking. In 1998 Mr. Wiener was elected Trustee for the Equipment Leasing and Finance Foundation, where he currently chairs the Foundation Research Committee. This non-profit foundation has provided over $1.4 million in grants for equipment leasing industry research since inception. Mr. Wiener has been instrumental in authorizing the publishing of 25 major research reports. For his service to the ELFA, Mr. Wiener received the highest honor of the association, the Distinguished Service Award, at the 2004 annual convention – and is one of only six individuals to ever be so recognized.
Mr. Wiener has been an in-demand speaker nationally on the topic “State of the Equipment Leasing Industry” at equipment leasing conferences over the past 20 years and has authored equipment leasing related articles including:
• “A Lessor’s Guide To Controlling Costs and Maximizing Efficiency” published in the Journal of Equipment Lease Financing; and,
• “Leasing Industry Demographics: A Statistical Review” published in The Monitor.
Mr. Wiener earned his Bachelors in Economics from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and his MBA, with honors, from the Sellinger School of Management at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a Registered Broker / Dealer Agent with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (formerly NASD). He is an accomplished musician singer songwriter proficient on guitar and harmonica. Mr. Wiener is also an avid skier having earned multiple NASTAR metals in competitively timed giant slalom races.
